This German WW1 Leather gas mask set is one of those pieces with just the correct overall patina. Gas mask is complete with a 1918 dated filter, mask itself has the classic orange lenses and is stamped size 2, leather is still soft and maleable. The canister shows an original base layer of green paint that has received a black coat over the top, possibly to camouflage it better. Remains of a paper tag can be seen on the outside, as we picked this up from the US, it could very well be a "senc-back" tag as a war trophy. The interior of the gas mask still has the correct spare lenses and instructions at the base. On the outside of the tin, at the bottom, the canister is named to a soldier, would make an interesting research piece!

Note: the gas mask also has the harder to find neck string, to hang on the wearer when not in use.

They rarely come any better than this, used but not abused, a beauty.
