An insanely rare German WW2 paratrooper second model smock, an item that you NEVER see on the market, unlike the much more common camouflage smocks from later on in the war. This particular example is in exceedingly good condition, having some wear and a very nice patina. The eagle has been restored by hand as the previous eagle seems to have been removed to be used for some other purpose. The bottom has been cut, as happens with all of the ones you can find in books, as it was much more comfortable to wear in combat with the shortened length, however this example hasnt been shortened heavily, as most are, only the tail buttons got removed, making it that much more complete.
Some other interesting details are all the original zippers, in working order, with the bottom front pocket missing the zipper, properly removed, probably by the soldier to grant easier access, and also missing one fast-snap on the front closure. The smock has some markings though very faint, we havent been able to make them out. Also to note, the vent holes under the armpit to allow air flow and better mobility.
The smock was found by a client of ours in the UK, where it seems to have ended as a war trophy from an officer. We got told that he enjoyed motor sports so it is posible he used it post-war for riding. That would also exmplain the British snap-fast at the bottom of the front closure, replacing a missing German one.
An insanely nice piece, worthy of even the best collections, and most definitely a museum rare item! A very complete piece!
